Welcome to our creative DIY haven, where we dive into the world of magical backyard glamping! If your little girl dreams of adventures under the stars, surrounded by nature’s beauty, and wishes for an unforgettable birthday celebration, then this backyard glamping party is for you. We threw the cutest camping party for Tessa this Summer, and I know you will love all these fabulous and budget-friendly ideas to throw the best glamping bash ever! She was dying to have her friends over for a backyard slumber party. So we set up a giant tent and created a magical campsite for the girls to celebrate Tessa’s birthday! Aren’t Summer birthdays the best?! Make sure you check out some of our other fun party ideas like the National Park Themed Birthday we threw or for more Sleepover themed ideas check out our Pancakes and Pajamas Party.
Glamping Party Decorations
Setting up for our backyard camping party was really fun. I wanted to make “stations” of certain areas the girls would use. The first thing was setting up our large family tent in the backyard. I made a handmade sign that read “Camp Tessa” to mark where all the fun would be. Of course, it wouldn’t feel like a campsite without a firepit and camping chairs. On the side of the tent we hung our movie projector and screen (this is one of the party activties, keep reading below for more info) and a cozy lounge area for the girls to hang out. I arranged plush pillows and soft glow-in-the-dark blankets so they could all cuddle in.
Inside Glamping Decorations
Inside I displayed a fun blue and white checkered tablecloth, balloons, and a few adorable printable signs and flags. I love using these because they are easy to print and very budget-friendly. They add the perfect amount of WHIM to all my parties. CLICK here for these cute Glamping Themed Ones. I cut flowers from our garden and displayed them in mason jars for some added color. Some other favorite things I used were my trusty wooden crates, some hiking themed party picks, and a lantern. Really anything outdoorsy will look cute for this theme.
Lastly, I was a little worried about a bunch of girls sleeping in the backyard and getting scared. So I decided to set out some enchanting lighting to not only make it look magical in the backyard, but also provide some soft light incase someone woke up and needed to come inside. These solar firefly lights are SO FUN! They look like twinkling fireflies floating in the air. We loved them so much that we decided to keep them up in our garden year round.
Glamping Party Food
I love the idea of serving campfire classics! You can make it simple with hot dogs or burritos. We decided to serve pulled pork sandwhiches, pasta salad, watermelon, and chips. I love to include sugar cookies that fit the theme of our parties. These Glamping themed ones were absolutely adorable (and yummy)!
Some fun Magical Munchies ideas are
- Fairy Fruit Wands: Grab a bamboo skewer and slide varied fruit onto it.
- Ladybug Bites: CLICK HERE for the recipe
- Pixie Popcorn: Caramel Popcorn with edible glitter.
Don’t forget about the smores! You can’t go camping and NOT have smores. Make a smores basket with all the essentials (graham crackers, chocolate and marshmallows). Make sure you have enough marshmallow roasting sticks for everyone. I bought this set off amazon and loved it! The handles adjust so you can make them long or short!
THE NEXT MORNING: Since this was a sleepover party, I also had to plan for breakfast in the morning. I kept it simple (because I knew I would be tired from lack of sleep). We did Pancake bites that I warmed in the oven, fruit, and donut holes. We finished off the party by singing Happy Birthday and enjoying cake before all the girls headed home. I made her cake this year. Just a simple boxed chocolate cake mix. I decorated it with adding a a tent I made from cardboard and some fabric down in my basement, pretzel rod trees and a “campfire” made of pretzels and candles to look like the fire. It turned out really cute!
Camping Party Activities
Oh we had so much fun with the activities for this party! There are so many creative and fun things you can do for a glamping party for girls.
DIY Bandana Tote Bags Activity
We started off by making these really easy and absolutely adorable tote bags from bandadas. You check out the full step-by-step tutorial HERE. I prepped these the day before the party because we had so many girls and not enough scissors. But for a smaller group you could have the kids do all the steps (yes, it is that easy). The girls REALLY enjoyed this camping craft. They thoughtfully sat and giggled with eachother as they tied knots all around the tote bag. The best part was when they were all finished they got to take their bag home and use it!
Camping Game- Pass the Parcel
Tessa really wanted to play Pass the Parcel. I had never heard of this before. How to play is you wrap a bunch of little gifts into one giant gift and pass it in a circle like musical chairs. When the music stops the person left holding the gift gets to unwrap one layer and gets what is inside. Then you continue around the circle until all the gifts have been handed out.
To make this game I went to the dollar store and got an assortment of candy and then some fun little “toys” like bubbles, friendship bracelets, squish toys, etc. I took a roll of wrapping paper and started with the smallest item first. Don’t worry, this present DOES NOT have to look pretty. I wrapped each layer with a new item. This is a really fun game for ALL AGES!
Outdoor Movie Theatre
Lastly, we set of our outdoor movie projector. We use this thing all the time. For indoor sleepovers, family summer movie nights, and even neighborhood block parties! It is an amazing thing to have on hand. I popped some popcorn and handed it out in these super cute Glamping themed popcorn boxes. The girls settled into their cozy blankets and watched Little Rascals. With the fairy lights around them it was a totally magical way to end the evening watching a movie under the stars.
Some other fun ideas for you camping birthday party:
- Starry Night Stargazing: Set up telescopes or binoculars for an exciting stargazing session. Print out constellation maps and have the girls identify different star patterns together.
- DIY Dreamcatchers: Provide materials such as embroidery hoops, colorful yarn, feathers, and beads to create personalized dreamcatchers. This craft doubles as a fantastic party favor!
- Glamping Photo Booth: Design a whimsical photo booth area with a backdrop of twinkling fairy lights and cozy blankets. Supply fun props like flower crowns, animal ears, and camping hats for hilarious and memorable snapshots.
The Perfect Camping Party Favors
The girls received their party favors when they first arrived at the party because they would need them for the backyard sleepover. I made DIY Glamping Kits! In a large brown paper lunch bag I gave each girl camping essentials.
Included were:
- Mini Flashlights
- Bug Cookies
- Merit Camping Pins (these were the cutest things EVER)
- Glow Stick Bracelets and Necklaces
- Gummy Bears
To display the Merit Pins, I used this printable from the camping party set that read “Camping Squad: Making Memories One Campfire at a Time”. I printed onto cardstock and pushed the pins onto the card. I loved this idea. It was like the girls earned their camping merit badges!
To finish off the backyard glamping birthday party favors and make them look cute I stapled a pennant camping flag that read Happy Camper onto the front. This was super easy to put together, and the girls were SO Excited to open them!
