I love Halloween. Not the horror/gore/super spooky type of Halloween. The pumpkins, witches, bats and magical type of Halloween. I wanted to surprise the girls and some of their little neighbor friends with an afterschool Halloween Snack Party. Here is how I threw together this super easy but totally magical party. It all started with a vision. The vision was of my giant jack-o-lantern and making it look like a bubbling witches caldron. I could see bubbles flying up into the air. Originally, I thought dry ice would be fun, but I wanted it to be less spooky and more magical. And what is the most magical thing in the world to kids? BALLOONS! So, I blew up a bunch of different sized balloons from this Halloween Balloon Garland Kit and made it look like the balloons were flying out of the jack-o-lantern and into the sky.
Fun Hocus Pocus Details
Some other fun decorations was the spider web tablecloth, my letterboard that read “Party Time Witches”, mini pumpkins with painted stars, and the adorable DIY Halloween Pennant Flags I made. You can download all 4 of Halloween Pennant Flag Designs HERE and check out my step-by-step tutorial on how to make them HERE. The “I Smell Children” Pennant Flag is my favorite and would make cute party favors for a larger party.
For setting the table I kept it super simple and used Halloween themed paper plates (kids don’t need fancy plates), napkins and “BOO” straws for drinks. I layered the paper plates to make it look “fancy”.
Party Ideas Snacks
Since it was an after-school snack party I made a Halloween Treat Board for the kids to grab whatever they liked. There are so many cute Halloween themed foods to choose from. Some of our favorites are the veggie ghosts (gluten-free), Oreo cookies, Spiderweb and Bat Pretzels, and chocolate covered skeletons. But THESE Hocus Pocus Sugar Cookies are the cutest!
This was such a fun way to surprise the kids after a long day of school. When the girls walked in and saw it for the first time they were completely amazed.
