We have been in the middle of giving our Master Bedroom a long awaited makeover. I’m not sure why we waited so long to do something nice for our bedroom? We finally decided it was time to turn our space into a little sanctuary. Here is how we made a Sponge Paint Accent Wall.
Keep an eye out for the full Master Bedroom Makeover Reveal coming soon. But I had a wall that I wanted to turn into an accent wall. I came up with the greatest solution for it and the best part….it was completely FREE! Here is how I made an accent wall using items I had at ZERO Cost!
Here is a look at the BEFORE.
Can we say plain, white and BORING!
I had seen a trend floating around on Social Media. It was called Sponge Wall Paint and I knew this would be a super fun, easy and inexpensive solution for this project.
Here is how I made a Sponge Painted Accent Wall
This really couldn’t be any easier.
What you need:
- A sponge
- Paint
- Paper Plate
- Scissors
Decide what kind of pattern you want to do on your wall. Then cut the sponge into the shape you want. I decided that I would cut a thin rectangle that I would make 3 lines on top of each other to make my pattern.
We made a grid on the wall so the pattern would be even. You can do it this way or free hand. Whatever works best with your personality and how organic you want it to look at the end. I wanted my pattern to be perfectly spaced out.
Pour a little bit of paint onto a paper plate. You don’t need a lot. Cover your sponge with paint, but make sure that it isn’t gloppy. If you need to press it out a little bit to get the access paint off, do that on a dry plate.
Gently, press the sponge to the wall. I was able to use the sponge about 5 times before needing to dip back into the paint. Although I wanted my pattern to be perfectly spaced out, I also wanted my 3 lines to be very organic. I eyeballed them and some lines are a little more faded than others.
I love how this Sponge Paint Accent Wall gives the look of wallpaper and for no cost at all (as long as you have an extra sponge and some sample paint lying around). It’s a great and easy way to add some interest to a plain wall. Best part….it’s paint! You can always and easily paint right over it!

How did you get the pencil lines off?
Great question. I went over the pencil lines with the white paint.
