Being a Room Parent for my daughters gives me the opportunity to come up with fun crafts/ideas for the classroom. I was in charge of the October Bulletin Board this year. On the fly I came up with a quick and simple craft for the kids to do that I could add to their bulletin board. Since the kids are in 1st grade and they wouldn’t have much time to make the craft during school, I tried to make it as easy as possible. I pre cut all the supplies and made sure it didn’t need any glue to put together (because of the mess and because of the dry time). What I came up with turned out so cute and perfect for little hands! This Pumpkin Craft for Kids would be perfect for preschool, kindergarten and any other small aged children that was to join in on the Halloween fun.

How to make these Mini Pumpkins
Supplies you need:
- Orange Foam (Or you can use any type of pre-shaped pumpkins)
- Green adhesive Foam (I used a glittery one)
- Green Pipe Cleaners
- Green Card Stock
- Markers
To make this simple, I pre cut everything. It took me about 20 minutes to hand cut all the supplies for 25 kids.
For the pumpkins I searched hard to find already made shaped pumpkins, but couldn’t find anything that didn’t already have a jack-o-lantern face. I really wanted the kids to decorate their pumpkin however they wanted so it was important to me that the pumpkins were plain. I’m sure there are some pre-shaped pumpkins out there, but was in a pinch so I hand cut some out of orange foam.
I cut rectangles out of the glittery green adhesive foam. Make sure your stems are adhesive on the back. This is important for holding their pumpkin together if you want it to be mess free.
I cut green pipe cleaners in half so they would be a better size for the mini pumpkins.
Last but not least their leaf. I hand cut leaves so they would be able to write their name on their pumpkin.
Building you pumpkin
Give each kid their supplies. Let them decorate their pumpkin first. They can draw a jack-o-lantern face or scribble all over it. Let them have fun with it and be creative. Once they are done decorating, take their pipe cleaner and scrunch it or curl it or bend it however they would like. Hold the leaf and pipe cleaner at the top of the pumpkin and secure with the adhesive stem. For the finishing touch have them write their name on the leaf so everyone can see which pumpkin is theirs.
For our classroom, I used their pumpkins and added them to the Classroom Bulletin Board for Fall. “The Best Pumpkins in the Patch” reads above their adorable creations. They get to walk by and see them everyday when they go to school for the month of October and then take them home!
