DIY Home Project for the Ultimate Host
The weather is getting so nice here in Colorado which means we immediately started refreshing our back patio for the endless Summer fun ahead. I cleaned the entire patio off, planted flowers in the pots, rearranged the furniture and stepped back to notice a giant section of our patio that looked so plain and boring! We had moved 2 storage containers that hold all of Rex’s BBQ accessories and the Kids Outdoor Toys and now that spot was empty and sad looking. So we decided to add a DIY Outdoor Patio Bar to the back of the house.
Here is the before…
It is time to add some WHIM to that spot and ASAP. After talking through a few ideas, we came up with the idea to put an outdoor shelf that we could use as a bar area or to hold some decorative plants or even a place to put our Bluetooth speaker so we could listen to music. We LOVE to entertain and have friends over, this seemed like the perfect solution.
I decided to add one long shelf at bar height for people to place glasses on and then a shorter shelf above that where I could put some plants and cute decor.
How we made the shelves
We grabbed 2 (5×1) boards from the hardware store and 5 decorative shelf brackets. The first step was to sand the boards down. I highly recommend an electric sander like the one HERE to make quick work of a project like this. Then I stained the shelves and put 2 layers of polyurethane to protect them from water. We measured out where we wanted them to go on the back of the house and screwed the brackets into the siding of the house. Rex added silicone to the screws to protect the holes from any water damage (he is such a smarty pants).
Yall, that was it! It was the easiest and quickest DIY project ever (I know I say that a lot). I decorated the bar and grabbed the Bluetooth speaker and we enjoyed the rest of the day on the patio. Now all we need is Coronavirus to take a hike so we can have all our friends over. This DIY back patio bar will be the perfect spot to line up shots and party.. haha just kidding 😉
